Dr. Barry Shaffer, director of Adult Education for the state of Minnesota, led a three-year initiative to build capacity and quality in Adult Basic Education's workforce education programs throughout the state. Educators from around Minnesota came together over the last 3 years to receive training and learn from each other. Over the course of the project, 157 separate businesses hosted on-site classes in the workplace. 84% of the classes were English as a Second Language (ESL); 16 % were basic skills or GED preparation. Following is a list of the types of businesses served:
